Don't forget that our next notebook check is on January 19th! Everyone's notebook is due by the 19th, no excuses. I will be using the same rubric as last quarter, so you can reference that if you are curious about how it will be graded. Be sure to also check out the example notebook tab on my website! I have a picture of every page from my example notebook with the completion requirements. If you would rather, you are also welcome to come see me any day at Smart Lunch between now and then, to look at my example notebook in person and ask me any questions you have. If you are missing anything, please be sure to ask me for whatever you need to fix it before the 19th!

The Salty Dog elves have been hard at work this week to be able to show you all how much we truly appreciate you! We hope you all love your letter, personalized pencils, candy cane, homework pass, and team photo because we had so much fun pulling this all together for y'all! I wish I had been able to get a picture of all of you with your gifts, but I was able to snag this one of my fifth period! We're looking forward to tomorrow and we hope you all have a wonderful break!
On Tuesday, we will be simulating the different types of battle. We will combine with Ms. Clark's class, and take it out to the football field for our demonstration! My husband is a military historian, so he will be able to teach the students all about what battles would actually look like. As of today, there is a chance of rain tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it passes, but just in case please make sure that rain coats are brought to school. Obviously we will not be outside if it storms, but a light drizzle won't stop a war!
Also, students will need to bring a grocery bag in order to carry their paper ball ammo outside in. If you are able, please send a few extra grocery bags for students who forget or are unable. Thank you for being awesome Salty Dogs! I'm very excited for tomorrow! Hey Salty Dogs! Don't forget that our first blue day is on Friday (11/17). Please wear your team color tomorrow and come ready to compete! If you did not get the chance to see what Doggy team you're on, then you can see them below :)
Don't forget! Our first notebook check is tomorrow! If you did not have a chance to check your notebook during Smart Lunch, there is now a new tab on my Weebly with my example notebook. This will not give you any of the answers, but will show you what goes on each page and what the completion requirements are. I don't accept late notebooks, so make sure you bring yours tomorrow!
If anyone is willing to donate glue sticks to the Social Studies classroom, it would be much appreciated! Between students who forget to bring their glue occassionally and students who are unable to buy their own, my supply is almost completely diminished. I am also requesting, if anyone were to see this before Monday, donations of Halloween candy or knick knacks. The kids are really disappointed that they now have school on Halloween, and it would be nice to be able to give some rewards!
Thank you! Mrs. Gravley The 2016 presidential election is coming up quickly! Today in class, we discussed how a person runs for president. Tomorrow in class, we are doing Election 101. We will begin class with a discussion on the steps that a person has to take in order to become a candidate for president. Students will spend class watching videos on the different issues being discussed in this election. Their assignment will involve identifying the stance of the different candidates and sharing their reaction to the videos. On Friday, every student will participate in OneVote. This is the largest student vote in the country. Every student will complete an anonymous ballot with their choice for president. OneVote has accurately predicted the winner for the last five elections!
Students are allowed to bring their phones and headphones on Thursday, in order to participate in Election 101! |
